Your trip to Peru has commenced! A representative will pick you up from the airport at the scheduled time to transfer you to your hotel in Lima. A modern metropolis full of history, travelers can find comfort and cultural activities in the capital city— though you’ll want to get plenty of rest as your sightseeing adventure begins the following day.
Enjoy breakfast at your Lima hotel before continuing your Inca Trail trip to Cusco city. After a short flight (90 minutes) from Lima to Cusco, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Following breakfast, you will start your Sacred Valley tour en route to Pisac, whose charming market is filled with beautiful alpaca textiles, musical instruments, and other handmade crafts fashioned after ancient Inca pieces. Next, we will tour the Pisac archeological vestiges, which are the largest, Incan-built agricultural terrace complexes in the area. After lunch in a local restaurant, a cozy restaurant inspired by local ingredients and regional dishes, we will continue our Sacred Valley tour to the Ollantaytambo Park and Ollantaytambo, an ancient town whose residents still live in accordance with Incan traditions. At the end of this leg of the Peru tour, you will return to your Sacred Valley hotel in time to relax for the evening.
After a filling morning meal, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to Piscacucho, the starting point of the Inca Trail. A stop is made in the town of Ollantaytambo for 15 to 20 minutes along the way. Once we reach Piscacucho, the hike begins and ends upon reaching a quiet campsite near Wayllabamba, where will have dinner and spend the night.
After having breakfast, the most challenging part of the trek begins, which consists of an abrupt and steep ascent toward the highest mountain pass on the Inca Trail known as Warmi Wañusca (4,200 m / 13,776 ft). After reaching the top, we begin the descent to our second campsite in Pacaymayo, where we will have lunch and dinner.
Make sure you fuel up as today is the longest, but most impressive day of the Inca Trail as we will have the chance to pass by a wide number of archaeological sites and observe a broad diversity of Andean flora and fauna within the lush cloud forest. From Pacaymayo, we climb to Runkurakay Pass and then descend to our lunch stop at Chaquicocha. Afterwards, the hike continues up an easy climb until we reach Phuyupatamarca Pass ( 12,073 ft), walking on until the final campsite at Wiñay Huayna (8,792 ft), where dinner is served.
After an early breakfast, we depart from the campsite in order to arrive before sunrise to the entrance gate of the Machu Picchu ruins, Inti Punku (Sun Gate). From here, you will witness the first rays of sunlight cascading over the ancient Inca citadel as you descend to the ruins. Take time to tour the timeless architectural masterpiece, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and don’t forget to soak in its views. Afterwards, we will take the bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a train ride back to Ollantaytambo Station and a transfer to Cusco city in the evening.
Enjoy your final breakfast at your hotel in Cusco before a transportation service takes you to the airport for your return flight to Lima.
