San Miguel de Allende: A historic town founded in 1542, this gem of Mexico is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And don’t forget: It was the first town to declare independence from Spanish rule during the Mexican War of Independence.

 

Cañada de la Virgen: Surrounded by picturesque canyons, this archaeological site is located just outside of San Miguel de Allende. Believed to have been occupied between 540 and 1050 AD, the grounds of Cañada de la Virgen stretch some 15 hectares and include pre-Columbian pyramids.

Guanajuato: Capital of its namesake Mexican state (which is known as the birthplace of the country’s independence), Guanajuato is an old mining town that charms with its quaint cobblestone streets and colonial architecture.

Welcome to San Miguel de Allende! Travelers who spend their vacations in San Miguel de Allende can fly into Del Bajío International Airport in Guanajuato or Querétaro Intercontinental Airport in Querétaro. From whichever of the two airports, a private car will pick you up and bring you to the historic city.

In the evening, after settling into your hotel, a unique food tour that simultaneously showcases the history and culture of San Miguel de Allende begins. Between sampling authentic Mexican bites, you’ll witness examples of the city’s stunning architecture and local culture.

Stretch your legs this morning on a walking tour of San Miguel de Allende. This engaging and active experience is a must for packages in San Miguel de Allende. For example, you’ll see where the city was originally located and how it was situated to protect the so-called Road of Silver.

Today we head just beyond the city limits to visit Cañada de la Virgen, an important political and social center that belonged to the Toltecs. To walk through this fascinating piece of history is to understand the value ancient cultures placed upon cosmic cycles and order. Afterwards, enjoy a ranch-style lunch in a nearby local community.

Today is yours to explore beautiful San Miguel de Allende at your own pace. While you are free to decide which activities you will partake in today, we highly recommend a visit to La Aurora factory. After serving as a prominent textile factory for nearly a century, La Aurora was converted into an arts center, displaying magnificent pieces from local artists.
